Pastor Blaise Polk
For over forty years Bishop Blaise D. Polk, Sr. has been a pastor sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ and Kingdom building. As a new church plant, he is the founder of Greater Power Baptist Church. Services were held in a renovated appliance store that held only 50 members in the congregation. Within 18 months the congregation growth expanded, and it was necessary to move to a larger building where once again renovation was required to seat at least 200 members. The church continued to grow beyond its capacity and God blessed the church to purchased two adjacent buildings on the edge of a community known as Zion City within the City of New Orleans. One building was the original Barq’s Soft Drink Manufacturing Company and the other was a screen-printing warehouse. With the square footage exceeding 25 thousand in one building, it was converted into a sanctuary along with office spaces, classrooms, a fellowship hall, and data center designed for computer instruction not only for area youth but also senior citizens. The church facility also had a free-for-all “Heaven’s Grocery Store” where members operated a food pantry that was also equipped with small appliances and clothing for the needy. The Lord planted Pastor Polk on fertile ground in New Orleans where he preached the Gospel in and out of season. Not knowing God’s next assignment for him, he continued to do what thus said the Lord. Then after morning service on one Sunday in August 2005, he was given a new assignment to leave behind an active membership with over 700. The church mortgage had only a few months left before paying it off. In 2013, Pastor Polk was commissioned by God to start a new ministry of help: Dove Nest Ministries in Rosenberg, TX. The need to reach out to the community residents was based on James 1:27 - "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world". In addition to holding Sunday worship services and Wednesday night Bible study, his assignment to oversee was for Dove Nest Ministries to focus on the elderly, those in residential health care facilities and embraced the youth. Although a small number in membership, the hearts of the willing workers at Dove Nest Ministries reflect the love of Christ in their actions both at home and abroad. We have traveled as missionaries to foreign lands where the Bible is forbidden teaching pastors how to teach the Word of God. We continue to support a congregation of listeners in Pakistan through preaching the Word on Saturday mornings and supplying financial donation to purchase food for followers. Pastor Polk continues to focus on Kingdom Building and saving souls. While he has “built” many edifices for worship, he realizes that his gifts are not his own. Hebrews 3:4 is a reminder that “. . . every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.
